The Pie Shop captures a scene of Victorian street life outside the warmly lit frontage of a traditional pie and savoury shop. Three figures occupy the foreground, their dark clothing set against the rich ochres, browns and golden tones of the shop behind them.

David Bullock's use of light is particularly effective here. The warmth of the shopfront appears to spill into the surrounding scene, picking out details in the figures and creating depth against the darker edges of the painting.
